Learning Guides run weekly study sessions for up to 10 students enrolled in CHEM 0110, CHEM 0120, or CHEM 0960/0970. Study Lab Learning Guides serve as a coach to assist students in becoming successful, independent learners. Guides support students in developing appropriate learning strategies, behaviors, and understanding of content material by planning and facilitating small group activities to promote collaborative learning between students and the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Learning Guides promote an environment in which all students feel welcome and comfortable to ask questions. As a member of the Study Lab team, guides maintain ongoing communication with the coordinator of the program. Expectations are for facilitators to work a total of 4 hours a week: one hour for required weekly meeting, one hour for running the actual study session, and 2 hours for planning, documentation, and session follow-up.

The Dietrich School of Arts & Sciences is looking for academically successful (GPA 3.0 or better) students to serve as learning guides in CHEM 0110, CHEM 0120 and CHEM 0960/0970 for Co-Lab. Applicants are assessed for interpersonal skills, trainability, course content knowledge, and ability to commit to the training program. Interested applications must have received a grade of B+ or better in the course(s) in which they would like to facilitate a study group for. Preference given for students who can commit to facilitating a group for the full academic year, fall and spring terms. Applications will continue to be accepted until all positions are filled.
Learning Guides must have earned at least a B+ or higher (some exceptions may apply) in CHEM 0110, 0120, or 0960. In order to ensure the quality of our program, we also require that students who are interested in working with us have a recommendation by the professor they had in the course or by another professor qualified to judge their competency in the course material. If hired, all Learning Guides are required to complete training throughout their first term.
