This role is responsible for engaging the Pitt community and local community through quality-of-life programs, off-campus student education, and awareness initiatives to create a safer, healthier, greener, and better-connected Oakland neighborhood.
Responsibilities Include:
- Weekly staffing of Off-Campus Student Services website live chat
- Attend weekly meetings with staff supervisor
- Attend bi-weekly meetings with assigned neighborhood groups
- Attend neighborhood association and other community meetings
- Participate in bi-weekly neighborhood walks/rounds performing safety checks, logging areas of concern, and canvassing with neighborhood messaging
- Development and facilitation of at least one neighborhood social/educational program per semester with co-neighborhood leads
- Recruitment of volunteer Oakland Community Ambassadors
- Engagement in social media and other outreach programs
- Participate in committee work to expand program
- Attend leadership training
Programming Support Includes: Be A Good Neighbor Block Parties, Tenant Town Halls, trash and recycling collection events, Leadership/Education Programs, Community-Building Programs, and Neighborhood/Oakland Organization-Based Programs and Events.
Current enrollment in an undergraduate program at the University of Pittsburgh. Additional requirements include excellent communication skills, the ability to work independently, punctuality, reliability, and adaptability. Highly motivated and enthusiastic about community engagement. Ability to travel within designated community. Working knowledge of social media. Ability to travel to Oakland for work. Must be a sophomore, junior, or senior. Must live off-campus.
Preferred qualification: We are looking for students to serve the neighborhoods in which they live. We have vacancies in all 5 neighborhoods of Oakland (North, South, West, Central, and Oakcliffe).
