Study Lab is currently seeking undergraduate Peer Tutors starting in Spring 2025.
Peer tutors work with a wide spectrum of the student population. Tutors function as a guide and coach to assist students in becoming successful, independent learners by supporting students in developing appropriate learning strategies, behaviors, and understanding of content material. A Study Lab tutor must demonstrate an ability to quickly establish rapport and communicate well with students. Training is also an essential component of becoming a tutor. Tutors integrate effective study and learning strategies, learned in training, to maximize the tuteeās potential for academic progress and success. As a member of the tutor team, tutors maintain ongoing communication with the coordinator of the tutor program.
Peer tutors provide individual tutoring sessions in subjects the tutor has attained a grade of B+ or better. To see a list of the courses our tutors support please click here. Priority is given to students who can tutor in more than one course and can commit to tutoring for at least two academic terms, excluding summer. For example, BISOC 0150 and BIOSC 0160 for both Fall and Spring. Tutors are required to provide two references, at least one from a professor of a course they are applying to teach.
A cover letter and copy of an unofficial transcript are also required for the application.
More information about the position and application requirements, including a link to submit references, can be found here: https://www.asundergrad.pitt.edu/study-lab/become-peer-educator-study-lab
