The Pitt News seeks students to work as writers for the newspaper’s sports desk.
They write game coverage, feature stories on varsity and club athletes and teams, as well as columns on anything sports-related.
At Pitt, there are a variety of sports teams to report on. In addition to game coverage and analysis, the sports desk provides commentary and features on what fans watch and see, whether it’s specific to how someone is playing or if it connects to a wider sports culture. The reporting is kept as specific to Pitt and Pittsburgh as possible. Sports writers write news, opinions and culture pieces — but as they relate to sports. The sports desk consists of staff writers, senior staff writers, an assistant editor and a head editor.
Sports writers work to cover the current events happening in Pitt Athletics.
Students are compensated for their work at The Pitt News. This position is open only to registered students at the University of Pittsburgh's main campus.
